DANVILLE – Luke Isaak filled up the stat sheet on Tuesday night.
The San Ramon Valley guard had a near triple-double as totaled 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to lead SRV to a 76-55 victory over Dublin at home.
“I was shocked when I heard about it in the locker room,” Isaak said. “I’ve never come close to getting 10 assists. I was just trusting my teammates, trusting the people around me and letting the game come to me.”
SRV senior Elliot Conley had 22 points and four rebounds and point guard Mason Thomas added 10 points.
SRV, which boasts a four-guard lineup, out-rebounded Dublin 29-26 and made 14 3s as a team.
Dublin point guard Miles Pollard led the Gaels with 16 points. Junior center Cameron Anderson had 11 points and five rebounds.
“They’re the best 3-point shooting team in the league,” said Dublin coach Tom Costello.
Dublin scored the first basket of the game, but that was the only time the Gaels ever had a lead on Tuesday.
SRV opened the first quarter with a 10-2 run, prompting Costello to call a timeout, two and a half minutes into the game.
Dublin clawed back in the second quarter as Pollard scored eight of his 10 first-half points to bring the Gaels within three points of the SRV lead going into halftime.
But it was all SRV from there.
A 10-4 run to start the third quarter gave SRV a quick 10-point lead. A Thomas 3-pointer at the 3:13 mark of the third period built the Wolves’ advantage to 13 points.
SRV outscored Dublin 26-12 in the third to take a commanding 17-point lead into the final eight minutes of play.
The nail in the coffin came in the fourth quarter when Isaak threw a football pass off an inbound to a streaking Conley who threw down a ferocious one-hand dunk, giving the Wolves a 69-50 lead with just over two minutes remaining.
SRV has been playing its best basketball as of late. The Wolves have won their last eight and 12 of their last 13 games as they sit in a tie for first place in the East Bay Athletic League with Dougherty Valley and De La Salle.
SRV coach Brian Botteen said his team is not looking too far ahead, but believes come section playoffs, that his team should be considered one of the best in the North Coast Section.
“I think it’s safe to say that we’re an open team and we’ve earned that,” he said. “Whoever it is we play, it’s just the next game. We play plenty of really good teams, so we’ll be excited about whoever it is we’re going against.”
Boys basketball
No. 1 Riordan 68, Serra 40
Riordan continues to breeze past West Catholic Athletic League opponents, this time beating Serra by 28 at home. Texas A&M commit Jasir Rencher scored a game-high 16 points, UC Irvine-bound center Nes Emeneke totaled 15 and Andrew Hilman had 13. Riordan (19-1, 10-0) is scheduled to play at St. Francis on Friday. Serra dropped to 12-8, 3-7.
No. 4 Dougherty Valley 58, Amador Valley 50
Dougherty Valley star didn’t have his usual high-scoring performance, but it didn’t matter as the Wildcats took down Amador Valley in a crucial EBAL matchup at home. Stokes finished with 12 points, followed by Tyler Robbins and Rashod Cotton Jr. who each scored nine. Amador Valley sophomore guard Jaylen Smith had a game-high 17 points and junior Dante Ventura added 14. Dougherty Valley improved to 19-6, 7-1. Amador Valley dropped to 17-8, 2-6.
No. 5 De La Salle 79, Granada 37
De La Salle star Alec Blair led the Spartans to a win and passed Joe See to become De La Salle’s all-time leading scorer. See’s record – 1,620 points – stood for 24 years until Blair scored 26 points on Tuesday night to pass the 2001 graduate with 1,652. De La Salle’s win put the Spartans at 22-3, 7-1 EBAL. Granada dropped to 7-18, 1-7.
No. 14 Valley Christian 55, St. Francis 36
The Warriors notched their third win in four games, beating St. Francis comfortably at home. Teniola Bamisebi scored a game-high 16 points and Bryant Clark had 12. St. Francis senior Chris Verceles totaled 15 points. Valley Christian (15-5, 6-4 WCAL) hosts Serra on Friday.
No. 15 Ygnacio Valley 83, College Park 58
Antonio Kellogg Jr. scored a game-high 28 points, Todd Tatom Jr. added 22 and Ygnacio Valley rolled to its fifth Diablo Athletic League win. Mathys Joseph totaled 16 points to lead College Park, which dropped to 16-8, 7-3. Ygnacio Valley (16-8, 5-3) travels to Alhambra on Thursday.
Head-Royce 63, College Prep 43
Mikael Akpala scored an efficient 20 points as Head-Royce made quick work of its Bay Counties League East Division rivals. Micah Nyamuzuwe and Jonah Greenberg each added 11 points. Junior James Pak had a team-high 13 points for College Prep, which dropped to 13-9, 3-6. Head-Royce improved to 13-12, 7-2.
St. Joseph Notre Dame 83, Cornerstone Christian 69
The Pilots stunned Cornerstone Christian, which came into Tuesday game as the top team in the Bay Counties League East Division. Senior Greyson Martin had a team-high 20 points, followed by Amari Toldon who had 12. St. Joseph’s Camden Jaques and JJ Kawazoe each had 10 points. Crafty guard Benjamin Lukacs totaled 20 points and Jayden Stewart had 15, but it wasn’t enough as Cornerstone fell to 21-4, 8-1. St. Joseph improved to 17-8, 6-3.
Palma 61, Oakwood 54
Oakwood had three scorers in double figures, but couldn’t find a way to beat Palma. Langston Watson led the Morgan Hill school with 13 points, Isaac Casteneda added 11 and Anthony Felix totaled 10 in the loss. Oakwood, which dropped to fifth in the Pacific Coast Athletic League, is now 12-8, 5-5.
Girls basketball
No. 15 California 66, Foothill 23
California cruised to its fifth straight win behind 15 points and three steals from senior point guard Trinity Chu. Sofie Addiego added 11 points and six assists while Lauren Yee had 11 points and three steals. California moved to 17-8, 7-1 EBAL. Foothill dropped to 5-19, 0-8.
