Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run in East Oakland. Police are searching for the driver

A pedestrian was fatally struck and killed on International Boulevard and 102nd Avenue in East Oakland on Friday night by a driver who fled the scene, police say.

Around 8:15 p.m., the pedestrian was in the westbound bus lane of International Boulevard when a driver of a 2011 BMW 535i came speeding down the lane. The impact sent the pedestrian into the eastbound lane of traffic. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police later found the BMW, though they are still tracking down the vehicle’s driver.

It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.
