Napa County authorities arrest suspect in wake of fatal crash

A suspect is in custody in the wake of a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in Napa County early Sunday, and alcohol is suspected as a factor, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Bicyclist fatally hit on East Bay highway identified

A Toyota Tacoma southbound on Silverado Trail south of Yountville Cross Road drifted off the roadway, crashing into a tree and landing on its side around 1:06 a.m. Sunday, according to Marc Renspurger, an information officer with the CHP.

A 23-year-old woman passenger from Arcata sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, Renspurger said in a press release.

Stefan Beckmann, 23, of St. Helena, was allegedly driving the Tacoma at the time of the crash, according to Renspurger. Beckmann was treated for minor injuries at Queen of the Valley Hospital and booked into custody at Napa County Detention Center, Renspurger said.

The roadway was opened to traffic at 6:11 a.m.
