Thursday’s heavy storm led to a mudslide and a fallen tree that blocked lanes on southbound Highway 101 and backed up traffic through Sausalito early Friday.
Two lanes remained closed due to the slide, Caltrans spokesperson Matt O’Donnell said. The lanes were expected to reopen by noon.
The California Highway Patrol reported the incident around 7 p.m. near the highway’s Rodeo Avenue onramp. In addition to the mudslide, a large tree fell and covered nearly all of the southbound lanes, the CHP reported. Officers also closed the emergency lane. CHP Officer Darrel Horner said there were no vehicle collisions related to the slide.
An “atmospheric river” style storm hit the Bay Area on Wednesday night and continued through Thursday evening. Sausalito had 2.89 inches of rain between Wednesday and Friday morning, National Weather Service meteorologist Roger Gass said. A maximum wind gust of 65 MPH was recorded in the Wolfback Ridge area on Thursday, he said.
