Passenger died in California freeway crash when horse flew through windshield, CHP said

The wreck on northbound Interstate 880 happened just south of The Alameda exit at about 4:40 a.m. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not identify the person immediately.

According to the CHP, a Honda Civic swerved to avoid something, ran into a barrier and overturned. The people in that vehicle got out of it after the wreck and were expected to be OK.

About three minutes after that crash, a motorcycle ran into that vehicle, the CHP said. The motorcyclist flew off and landed in a bush between the off-ramp and the freeway, according to the agency.

The crash blocked all lanes of I-880, and the CHP issued a Sig Alert about 4:50 a.m.  By 6:15 a.m. all the lanes were re-opened.
