Man suspected of assaulting victim with gun outside East Bay supermarket

BRENTWOOD — Police called to a supermarket arrested a person last week they said was suspected of brandishing a gun.

In a statement Tuesday, Brentwood police said officers Friday were called to supermarket in the 1100 block of Second Street about 8:30 p.m. Once there, police said they found a victim who said a man had pulled out a gun while delivering a threat.

Authorities said police arrested the man on suspicion of assault with a firearm, making criminal threats, carrying a loaded firearm in a car; possessing a concealed weapon, and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

The officers saw the suspect, a 28-year-old Antioch man, at the scene when they arrived. Police said they officers used extra precautions while telling the man to get out of the car — a “high-risk” stop — and arrested him there, finding a gun in the car in the process.

Jail records indicated he remained in custody Tuesday at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond in lieu of $100,000.
