Man killed, teen wounded in West Oakland shooting

OAKLAND — A man was killed and a 13-year-old boy was wounded by a stray bullet Sunday night in a shooting at a West Oakland apartment complex, authorities said.

The name of the 37-year-old man killed has not been released pending notification of his family. Police were trying to confirm where he lived.

The shooting happened about 8:04 p.m. Sunday at the Acorn Town Center complex in the 1000 block of 10th Street, police said.

Police said the man killed was the intended target of at least one shooter in a courtyard of the complex.

The boy was wounded in the upper torso by a bullet that penetrated the apartment he lives in. No one else inside the apartment was wounded.

Both the man and the boy were taken to a hospital where the man later died. The boy was in stable condition.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released by police.

The killing is the 16th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated 11 homicides in the city.
