Moderators failed their
job in the debate

In the recent debate, President Biden was the victim of a Gish gallop attack by Donald Trump.

Wikipedia defines a Gish gallop as “a rhetorical technique in which a person in a debate attempts to overwhelm an opponent by abandoning formal debating principles, providing an excessive number of arguments with no regard for the accuracy or strength of (the) arguments and that are impossible to address adequately in the time allotted to the opponent.”

Wikipedia adds, “The technique wastes an opponent’s time and may cast doubt on the opponent’s debating ability.”

Given that this is a known technique, the debate moderators should have stopped it. Biden’s debate performance needs to be viewed in this context.

Voters must show
Biden the door

Re: “President scrambles to save reelection” (Page A1, July 6).

The two people running for president should not be, and the collective voters are not excited about either candidate.

One has been convicted of 34 felony counts, staged a coup to overturn the 2020 election, and openly states he will be a dictator on Day One when elected. The other is a public servant who has honorably served America for decades, secured our democracy in 2020, and whose health appears to be failing.

The Republicans did not do right by the American public to find another nominee for president. The Democrats in power need to do the right thing for the American public to secure our democracy with an immediate transition plan for a new Democratic nominee.

Democracy is on the ballot and we can’t let Joe Biden “dictate” that he will remain in the race unless the “Lord Almighty” tells him so. We must rise up together to preserve America.

The recent French referendum got me thinking. Why can’t we have a similar coalition, especially now that our parties are so divided?

Then my brother suggested a running mate for Kamala Harris (should Biden quit the race) that made perfect sense: Adam Kinzinger. We would get the solid Democrats voting for Kamala and the swing voters who do not like Trump would vote for Adam. He is young, a veteran, a hero and has a backbone as demonstrated when he parted ways with the MAGA Republicans to disavow the Jan. 6 coup. Let’s ask Adam.

It’s the best of both worlds, We have to be creative, folks.
