How to watch Real Madrid vs. Atlético Madrid in California

While archenemy Barcelona began the season with seven consecutive wins, Real Madrid’s two ties in that span feel like defeats, especially considering they added the best striker on the planet to their roster.

Kylian Mbappé has “only” scored four goals in seven matches, and sits behind two Barcelona players on La Liga’s top scorer list. Still, the Frenchman is proving his value, showcasing a promising connection with Brazilians Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior. How might Mbappé fare against the traditionally solid defense of their city counterparts, Atlético Madrid?

Real sits in second place in La Liga with 17 points with five wins and two draws, just behind Barça, who is first with a perfect haul of 21 points. Meanwhile, Atlético de Madrid and its long-serving coach, Argentine Diego Simeone, rest in a solid third place with 15 points after four wins and three draws. For Atlético, the player to watch is Simeone’s countryman Julián Álvarez, who transferred this season from Man City for about $104 million. Álvarez has scored just once this season.

Real Madrid takes on Atlético Madrid in the Madrid Derby on Sunday, Sep. 29 at noon PDT at Metropolitano Stadium, Atleti’s home stadium.
