Driver shot in Oakland after attempted car break-in

OAKLAND — A 25-year-old San Francisco man was shot in the arm Thursday night as he was driving away from a break-in attempt to his vehicle in West Oakland, authorities said.

He was able to drive himself to a hospital where he was later listed in stable condition, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 8:20 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of 25th Street, between San Pablo Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

The man, who told police he was in Oakland to visit a friend, was parked in his vehicle when a man walked up and tried to break in by smashing a rear window, authorities said.

He then started driving away. The man who attempted the break-in ran to another man across the street and one of them fired at the fleeing vehicle, wounding the driver, authorities said.

No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.
