The blaze was reported just before 4 p.m. at Eureka Drive and Stevenson Boulevard, according to Alameda County Fire Department spokesperson Cheryl Hurd.
The wind-driven fire spread quickly toward the Union Pacific railroad tracks, Hurd said.
Crews worked to keep the fire away from commercial buildings in the area and had to contend with trees and a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. power pole going up in flames, according to Hurd.
Around 5:30 p.m., firefighters called for a third alarm and additional engines from the Hayward and Oakland fire departments were summoned to the scene, Hurd said.
The fire’s forward progress was halted by 7 p.m., according to Hurd. PG&E and Union Pacific officials were assessing the damage.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Hurd said.
