Crash kills one, injures two after Highway Patrol chase in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG – Amid a police pursuit early Sunday morning, a suspect crashed into a car, killing one and leaving two injured, according to a press release from California Highway Patrol.

Around 12:41 a.m., on March 23, CHP officers saw a suspect in a stolen gray Infiniti sedan armed with a stolen handgun speeding over 100 miles per hour on State Route 4.

The officers caught up with the vehicle as it exited onto Railroad Ave in Pittsburg. When the officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, and the officers pursued the vehicle for about a minute. The suspect crashed with a vehicle uninvolved with the chase, killing one and injuring both the suspect and the driver of the other vehicle, who were transported by paramedics to a local hospital. The stolen weapon was found at the scene.

The suspect is under criminal investigation by the Pittsburg Police Department, and the incident is being investigated by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, according to CHP officials.
