MARTINEZ — An El Sobrante man has been sentenced to two years in state prison in a case where he was originally accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and ramming her with a car.
Roderick Parrish III, 26, accepted a domestic violence conviction as part of the deal, records show. He was transferred to North Kern State Prison on March 3 and is set to be released in December 2026, according to prison records.
Parrish was arrested and charged with kidnapping, assault, dissuading a witness, and other offenses last year. Police said at the time that he was driving the woman from his home in El Sobrante when they got into an argument in Concord. He allegedly threw the woman’s cellphone out of the car when she threatened to call 911 and accelerated into her when she got out to retrieve it
After getting the woman back in his car, he dropped her off at a fast food restaurant in Bay Point, authorities said at the time.
Parrish’s lawyer said the deal allows his client to put the incident behind him.
“Mr. Parrish, who will be released next year, looks forward to being reunited with his children and starting a new chapter in life,” the attorney, Jeff Wozniak, said in a statement.
Parrish served a three-year prison term in 2020 for pimping a 16-year-old girl. The alleged victim in this case reportedly told police that when she met Parrish, she was aware of that pimping case and that Parrish frequently referred to himself as a pimp. She said Parrish repeatedly tried to recruit her into prostitution, and when she refused, told her she must not love him, authorities said in court records.
Police were able to find prostitution ads online that they believe contained pictures of the woman, but no pandering or pimping charges were ever filed, court records show.
