City Lights Theater cancels opening weekend of ‘Truce’

Opening weekend of the new City Lights Theater Company production of “Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War” has been canceled due to a cast member falling ill.

In an announcement made this afternoon by Lisa Mallette, the San Jose theater company’s executive artistic director, “Truce” will open next week instead, with a “pay what you can” preview on Nov. 29, a second preview at 2 p.m. Nov. 30 and opening night at 8 p.m. that evening. The show’s run continues through Dec. 22.

Ticketholders can call the box office at 408-295-4200 for more information on how to exchange their tickets for a new performance date.

Written by playwrights Kit Wilder and Jeffrey Bracco, “Truce” tells the story of a Christmas miracle during World War I, when soldiers called a spontaneous ceasefire to observe the holiday. At some battlegrounds, the truce lasted a day, but in others, that moment of peace and sanity lasted up to a week. The play had its world premiere at City Lights in 2014.
