Authorities identify man killed in Orinda shooting

ORINDA – A man who was shot and killed Thursday morning in Orinda has been identified as 50-year-old Orinda and Truckee resident Scott Decker, according to authorities.

In an update Friday, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office also said “the other person involved in this case has been interviewed and is no longer being detained pending further investigation.”

No other details were released.

Orinda police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Las Vegas and La Espiral roads just after 11 a.m. Thursday for a report of a shooting. They arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement Thursday, the sheriff’s office called the fatal shooting an “isolated incident.”

“There is no further risk to the public,” the sheriff’s office said.

The police department and the sheriff’s office are continuing to investigate the homicide.
