Alleged Oakland gang leader charged with killing girlfriend in front of 6-year-old girl

OAKLAND — The man suspected of shooting a 26-year-old woman as she slept next to her 6-year-old daughter is also the leader of a Sureño subset linked to other shocking crimes, including a mass shooting at a Richmond party, authorities have revealed.

Jeronimo Orland Pablo-Carrillo, who police say goes by “Paisano,” was charged last year with murdering 26-year-old Yolanda Calmo-Lorenzo at a house party shooting in July 2023. But Pablo-Carrillo was not arrested until earlier this month, when the U.S. Marshals tracked him down in Michigan and took him into custody, authorities said.

Pablo-Carrillo has not yet been extradited to the Bay Area, according to court and jail records. He has been charged with murder, domestic violence and gun possession.

The last few hours of Calmo-Lorenzo’s life were festive, with her, Pablo-Carrillo, and several others — including known members of the South Side Loco-502 Sureños — getting drunk on beer and Tequila at her home on the 1400 block of 84th Avenue, according to authorities. She and Pablo-Carrillo reportedly argued about something that evening, witnesses would later tell police.

The exact nature of the argument was unclear, but people familiar with the couple’s relationship told investigators that Pablo-Carrillo was jealous that Calmo-Lorenzo maintained contact with her daughter’s father. Calmo-Lorenzo was allegedly sleeping next to her daughter when she was shot, and the girl was seen running from her mom’s room a few moments later stating that she was dead, authorities said.

But before that, at least one eyewitness saw Pablo-Carrillo leave the room with a gun in his hand, authorities said. Surveillance footage from a nearby home reportedly captured him getting into a blue Toyota Tacoma and taking off.

Police say Pablo-Carrillo is known as the leader of the SSL-502 Sureños, an Oakland-based gang that has been investigated for several other homicides, most notably the June 21, 2021 house party shooting in Richmond that claimed three lives and injured seven.

Two gang members, 30-year-old Enrique Ramirez-Calmo, and a then-teenager named Geovani Garcia-Jacinto were both arrested and charged with murder. Ramirez-Calmo was sentenced to life last year, while Garcia-Jacinto was charged as a juvenile, records show.

Months after the the murders, several SSL-502 members allegedly lured a woman named Carolina Carrillo-Mendoza, 31, to the Oakland Hills and killed her. Police have investigated multiple suspects, including Garcia-Jacinto. But the only one to be charged was Carrillo-Mendoza’s ex-boyfriend, Matias Mendoza-Mendoza, who was sentenced to probation in a plea deal. Police believe another person, not Mendoza-Mendoza, was the shooter.

Another alleged SSL-502 member, Roni Jacinto, was sentenced to jail and probation for killing his brother during a struggle over a firearm in 2022. Jacinto, who recently survived a shooting in a high-prostitution neighborhood in East Oakland, was kicked out of the Richmond house party hours before it was shot up, and his DNA was found on a beer can at the scene of Mendoza-Mendoza’s killing. But he has not been charged in connection with either incident.

Pablo-Carrillo’s arraignment has not yet been set, records show.
