MODESTO — An Alameda County Fire Department captain has been arrested as part of a Modesto police child sex predator investigation, authorities said Friday.
The 48-year-old man, a resident of Cameron Park who was arrested Feb. 28, is currently on administrative leave, officials said.
He was one of 21 individuals arrested between May 2024 and February on suspicion of crimes related to child sexual exploitation, Modesto police said.
The Modesto police special crimes unit launched multiple investigations targeting individuals attempting to engage with minors for sexual purposes, the department said in a news release.
The fire captain was one of 12 suspects identified through undercover chatting operations as a person who allegedly sent explicit images, videos and messages to what they believed were minors, the release said.
Police alleged the captain attempted to engage in lewd acts with a child under 14, had lewd communication with a minor and possessed child pornography.
It was not immediately known if he has been formally charged.
“Our department supports our law enforcement partners and fully cooperates with all agencies involved while the investigation continues,” Alameda County Fire Department Chief William McDonald said. “I want to ensure you that the members of ACFD will remain committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability. Our residents’ safety and trust are the highest priority all all levels.”
