2 arrested after violent California bar fight that escalated from argument over Israeli/Palestinian conflict

Two men were arrested after a violent bar fight that involved an argument over the Israeli/Palestinian conflict escalated into one man driving a car into two others, injuring one significantly, police said.

On Saturday, Dec. 7 around 2:19 a.m., after the disturbance began in the bar, a 25-year-old Huntington Beach man chased one of the others out into the 200 block of Beach Street and tackled him, Laguna Beach police said.

Then the following events unfolded, according to a news release:

A 39-year-old friend of the man who was tackled drove his car onto the sidewalk and struck a 28-year-old man, “causing significant but non-life-threatening injuries to his lower extremities.” Another man also said he was intentionally hit by the car but had minor injuries.

The driver then left but was located in the vicinity and was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The man who was tackled alleged the man who chased him kicked him in the head after taking him to the ground, causing head trauma. He declined to be taken to a hospital. The man accused of tackling him was arrested on suspicion of assault likely to cause great bodily injury.

Details on how the initial altercation started were not released, and additional information was not available, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
