Electrifying RB Recruit Sends Strong Message About Alabama

The Alabama Crimson Tide continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail under Kalen DeBoer, and one of the latest names generating serious buzz is talented South Carolina running back Tai Phillips.

According to recruiting insider Chad Simmons of Rivals, Alabama has positioned itself as one of the early leaders for the electrifying running back prospect out of Irmo, South Carolina.

Phillips is beginning to narrow his focus heading into official visit season, and the Crimson Tide is firmly in the middle of the race.

Alabama Emerging as One of Tai Phillips’ Top Schools

Phillips currently has official visits lined up with Virginia Tech, NC State, and Alabama, with his trip to Tuscaloosa scheduled for June 12-14.

While several programs remain involved, Phillips made it clear that two schools stand above the rest.

“Alabama and Virginia Tech are my favorites,” Phillips told Rivals. “Both schools have been very consistent. I hear from them every day. They are both making me feel like a priority.”

Feeling wanted is something that is proving to be important to Phillips.

“I want to go somewhere where I’m wanted,” Phillips said. “I don’t want to be just another guy.”

For Alabama, that consistent communication appears to be paying off in a major way.

Coach Robert Gillespie Making a Strong Impression

One of the biggest factors helping Alabama in Phillips’ recruitment is running backs coach Robert Gillespie.

Phillips specifically pointed to Gillespie and the atmosphere surrounding the program as reasons why the Crimson Tide continues to stand out.

“They focus on the person before the player,” Phillips explained. “They want to see you win off the field, too.”

That development-first approach has become a recurring theme for Alabama targets under DeBoer’s staff, especially with prospects focused on long-term growth beyond college football.

Phillips also referenced a spring visit to Tuscaloosa that left a major impression.

“The visit this spring was great,” he said. “They really focused on each other and getting better. I like Coach G a lot, too. He was in to see me last week.”

The relationship-building aspect of Alabama’s recruiting strategy continues to resonate with high-level recruits across the country.

Official Visit Season Could Be Massive for Alabama

Although Virginia Tech has made a strong push early in the process, Alabama’s history of player development and NFL success could become a deciding factor once official visits begin.

Phillips said development is the single most important factor in his recruitment.

“Player development matters most to me,” he said. “My goal is to make it to the NFL.”

The Crimson Tide will now look to capitalize on Phillips’ June official visit as they attempt to separate themselves from the rest of the field.

At this stage, Alabama appears to have positioned itself exactly where it wants to be heading into a critical stretch of the recruiting cycle.

For a dynamic playmaker like Phillips, who posts a 4.32 40-yard dash, the next few weeks could go a long way toward determining where one of South Carolina’s top prospects eventually lands.
