<p id=”par-1_65″>Dr. Dre and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/snoop-dogg/?swcfpc=1″>Snoop Dogg</a> recently teamed up on <em>Missionary</em>, Snoop’s twentieth studio <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/music/”>album</a>. The two men have collaborated often over the years, but Dr. Dre said he prefers to look to the future. When Snoop put on some of their old music, Dr. Dre immediately instructed him to turn it off. He said he likely won’t revisit his old material until further in the future.</p>

<p id=”par-2_38″>In their most recent collaboration, Snoop says he and Dr. Dre are not attempting to live up to fan expectations or compare themselves to past work. Dr. Dre won’t even listen <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/snoop-dogg-celebrating-30-years-working-with-dr-dre-dropping-new-album-together.html/”>to their old music</a> as a reference.</p>
<p id=”par-3_59″>“We think about perfection amongst ourselves. We are competing against us,” Snoop told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.complex.com/music/a/jillian-hardeman-webb/still-dr-dre-snoop-dogg-complex-cover” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Complex</a> in 2024. “This n**** don’t even listen to anything that we did that’s old. So you don’t never have to worry about that with him. I was playing our old record today, he said, ‘Man, turn that s*** off and put on our new s***.’”</p>
<p id=”par-4_29″>Dr. Dre said he doesn’t want the people around him to listen to his music either. He wants to focus on what he is working on in the present.</p>

<p id=”par-5_85″>“I don’t listen to any of the songs I’ve ever made since 1985, which is when I started,” he explained, adding, “I don’t even allow my family or anybody to play that s*** around me. I think that just the process of recording is what I really enjoy. Just recording the albums, and I’m listening to it enough while we’re recording, and when we finish recording, I wake up listening to that s*** once it comes out. I’m ready to listen to the next s***.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_16″>He said he will consider revisiting his old material at some point in the distant future.</p>
<p id=”par-7_75″>“Maybe later when I’m kicking it <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/millionaire-dr-dre-reportedly-stopped-giving-homeless-daughter-latonya-money-spoken-press.html/”>with my grandkids</a> or something like that,” he said. “Maybe I might go back and start listening to the trajectory from 1985 and how my skills developed along the way. That would be much more entertaining for me to listen to what I was doing from then until now. And really listening to how my skills developed along the way. I think that would be more entertaining for me.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_19″>Dr. Dre said he thinks his new music sounds better than what he used to make. Snoop, however, disagreed. </p>
<p id=”par-9_11″>“I think I’m making the best s*** ever,” Dr. Dre said.</p>
<p id=”par-10_57″>“I do too, but I think some of your old music is f***ing amazing,” Snoop said. “If he don’t listen to his old music, that means he ain’t listening to the music that’s out either. So his s*** don’t sound like nobody’s. This n**** make records for what’s in for him, no matter what’s going on outside.”</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-he-said-he-doesn-t-feel-inspired-by-much-modern-music”>He said he doesn’t feel inspired by much modern music</h2>
<p id=”par-11_19″>Dr. Dre said that the reason he doesn’t listen to much current music is because it doesn’t inspire him.</p>
<p id=”par-12_72″>“I don’t want to be disrespectful to anybody right now, but I’m not really inspired by what’s happening with hip-hop these days,” he said. “It’s not for me. I’ve always said I’m not going to disrespect it or anything like that, but I haven’t heard anything that makes me go f***, why didn’t I do that? I haven’t heard that in a long time, which makes my job easy to be honest.”</p>
