Austin man, 58, dies after suffering complications from gunshot wounds

The death of a man found unresponsive on a sidewalk Wednesday morning in Austin was ruled a homicide from being shot.

A Thursday autopsy determined Isiah Matthews, 58, died of complications of remote gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Matthews was found unresponsive on the sidewalk around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday in the 5200 block of West Harrison Street, Chicago police and the medical examiner’s office said.

Matthews, of the same block on Harrison, was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was pronounced dead at 10:25 a.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

Matthews’ death was ruled a homicide.

No arrests have been reported as detectives investigate.
