BIG WATER, Kane County — Recovery operations are ongoing for a 30-year-old who is presumed to have drowned in Lake Powell Sunday afternoon.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area dispatch received a call about a presumed drowning in the Warm Creek arm of Lake Powell at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday,according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said witnesses reported a group of five friends on a privately owned vessel traveling in the Warm Creek area of Lake Powell. There, the 30-year-old victim from Flagstaff, Arizona went for a swim during semi-windy conditions without a life jacket, according to police.
The man was last seen about 100 meters from the vessel when he disappeared beneath the water and did not resurface, according to the sheriff’s office.
The National Park Service deployed its submerged Remote Operated Vessel dive boat to aid in the search as recovery operations continue. Police report no recovery was made Sunday and the victim is presumed dead.
Police have not revealed the victim’s identity at this time, nor will it be released until family members are notified.
