49ers Hit With Strong Statement From Free Agent Kyle Van Noy

The San Francisco 49ers‘ pass rush situation has been a topic all offseason and for good reason, given the lack of sacks from last season. Nonetheless, the Niners have made efforts to address the team’s sack production, such as trading for Osa Odighizuwa and drafting Romello Height in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Still, could San Francisco look at a veteran pass rusher to add more depth behind Nick Bosa? One of the names that has been in the speculation chatter is Joey Bosa. While it would be interesting to see the Bosa brothers play together, it appears the former Los Angeles Chargers star might be too expensive for them, at least for now.

Nonetheless, there’s another experience edge that would like to play for the Niners. On the May 5 edition of “Up & Adams,” former Baltimore Ravens standout Kyle van Noy expressed his desire to play alongside 49ers linebacker Fred Warner.

“I really would like to play with my little brother, Fred Warner, with the Niners,” van Noy told Adams. “I think they’ve got something cooking over there; I know they love Joey Bosa because of Nick and all that [and] I get that. But I would love to play with my little brother. That’s my guy. And I think they’ve got something cooking over there.”

Moreover, van Noy didn’t reveal whether he’s had any talks with San Francisco, but continued to express his desire to play with Warner.

“I’m not gonna go into those details, but I would love to play with Frederico a little bit,” van Noy added. “[Warner would] probably be bossing me around since it’s his defense. He might get all the getbacks of me kind of, you know, messing with him.”

Last season for the Ravens, Van Noy posted a 63.0 overall PFF defensive grade. Moreover, the veteran pass rusher had a PFF pass-rush grade of 51.8 and run-defense grade of 76.7. Van Noy. He also generated 27 total pressures as a pass rusher, including two sacks, 17 hurries, and eight hits.

49ers Insider Gets Blunt About Joey Bosa Speculation

As for Bosa, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco responded to questions from fans and shared whether the older brother of Nick Bosa is still a potential option for the 49ers to bolster their pass rush.

“As long as Joey Bosa remains unsigned, he’s still an option,” Maiocco said. “Some of the top available players include Haason Reddick, Joey Bosa, and Michael Danna from Kansas City. Leonard Floyd was previously with the 49ers, but after being released, a return seems unlikely.

“Still, even with those names out there, it’s not something to expect. While they are options, it doesn’t seem likely the team would be willing to pay Joey Bosa the kind of money he’s looking for.”

It will be interesting to see whether the 49ers decide to pursue a veteran pass rusher or choose to roll with what they have first to see if it’s enough, given that the team will have the younger Bosa back and a new defensive coordinator in Raheem Morris.
