Wind advisory in place for Los Angeles County until Wednesday afternoon – wind gusts up to 45 mph

Western Santa Monica Mountains Recreational area, Santa Susana Mountains, 5 Freeway corridor near Santa Clarita, Western San Gabriel Mountains/Highway 14 Corridor and Southern Ventura County Mountains are included in a wind advisory released by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 12:55 p.m. The advisory is in effect until Wednesday Jan. 14, at 2 p.m.

The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA states to prepare for, “Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Isolated gusts to 55 mph possible.”

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Gusty cross winds could make driving difficult on area roadways,” the NWS said. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.”

Sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening. Seek shelter. If you are driving, keep both hands on the wheel and slow down.

Wind advisory: Take action!

Strong winds are occurring but are not so strong as to warrant a High wind warning. Objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving.

High wind watch: Be prepared!

Sustained, strong winds are possible. Secure loose outdoor items and adjust plans as necessary so you’re not caught outside.
