US home sales continue their weak spring, economists say

The National Association of Realtors releases its monthly snapshot of existing U.S. home sales on Friday, June 21.

Economists project that sales of previously occupied homes fell in May for the third month in a row. The spring homebuying season is off to a sluggish start this year as home shoppers contend with elevated mortgage rates and rising prices.

Here’s a quick history of the number of existing home sales at the seasonally adjusted annual rate:

December: 3.88 million.

Jan.: 4 million.

Feb.: 4.38 million.

March: 4.22 million.

April: 4.14 million.

May (estimated): 4.08 million.
