Update: High surf advisory affecting Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches Friday and Saturday – breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet predicted

Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are included in an updated high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 1:38 p.m. The advisory is valid from Friday 3 a.m. until Saturday 3 a.m.

“Large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet, along with dangerous rip currents,” the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA said. “Some minor flooding of low-lying areas such as parking lots and coastal walkways is possible near the times of the morning high tides Friday and Saturday.”

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
