Universal Studios, Six Flags Magic Mountain closed due to extreme winds

Universal Studios Hollywood and Six Flags Magic Mountain have closed their gates due to the extreme winds fueling a series of dangerous and rapidly spreading wildfires across Southern California.

At least three wildfires propelled by a dynamic and rare Santa Ana windstorm with gusts up to 80 mph were quickly consuming thousands of acres across Los Angeles County on Wednesday, January 8 .

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk were closed on Wednesday as a result of the “extreme winds and fire conditions,” according to the theme park’s website.

“We will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow,” according to the Universal website. “The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.”

Six Flags Magic Mountain was closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to the amusement park’s website.

Magic Mountain tickets purchased for Wednesday remain valid throughout the rest of the year.

Magic Mountain moves to winter hours next week when the Valencia park will be closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Legoland California in Carlsbad just moved to winter hours and was already scheduled to be closed on Wednesday.

Disneyland (8 a.m.-10 p.m.), Disney California Adventure (8 a.m.-9 p.m.), Knott’s Berry Farm (11 a.m.-6 p.m.) and SeaWorld San Diego (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) all remained open on Wednesday with normal operating hours.
