A secluded Santa Fe-style home, originally built for “Dark Shadows” star Lara Parker and currently owned by Grammy-winning producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee, is on the market in Topanga.
The asking price is $4.2 million.
Sited on over 1 acre in the Old Canyon neighborhood since 1991, this 4,660-square-foot residence features five bedrooms and five bathrooms, distributed between the main and guest houses.
Records viewed on PropertyShark.com show that Lee and his wife, Melissa, bought the property in February 2011 for just over $1.8 million.
Lee, who contributed to U2’s Grammy-winning Album of the Year “How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” in 2005, converted the garage into a professional recording studio. U2, Taylor Swift, One Direction, REM, The Killers, Silversun Pickups have recorded there, the listing claims.
The home draws inspiration from Southwestern architecture.
According to the listing, the original owners, identified in county records as Parker, who went by Lamar, and her husband, contractor Jim Hawkins, made multiple trips to New Mexico to study the pueblo dwellings that inspired this compound.
“From handcrafted curved plaster walls to wooden vigas adorning the grand living and dining room ceilings, the home exudes warmth and authenticity,” the listing reads.
In the main house, a kitchen that was recently redesigned connects to the outdoors. Amenities include a pool and spa, a pergola-covered dining patio and a sprawling vegetable garden.
“The property is designed for both relaxation and entertaining, with a pool and spa, multiple outdoor patios, a pergola for alfresco dining, and a sprawling vegetable garden for a true farm-to-table experience.
A fireplace warms the library, painted a deep red with French doors that open to a passion fruit-covered patio and bird-friendly garden.
Upstairs, the primary suite features a fireplace, a spa-like bathroom with a Swedish sauna, an office and a balcony with views of the hills.
A Mongolian yurt and several storage buildings round out the property.
Olga Crawford of Compass has the listing.
Parker, who died in October 2023 at 84, was famous for her portrayal of Angelique, a vengeful witch who dabbled in vampirism on the Gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows” during the 1960s and ’70s. In the late ’90s, she published a series of novels inspired by her character. Parker made a cameo in the 2012 film adaptation of “Dark Shadows,” directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp and Eva Green.
