Suspect killed in shootout with deputies in Huntington Park

An armed man suspected of domestic violence and allegedly brandishing a handgun at Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies moments before shooting at them was killed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 in Huntington Park in the exchange of gunfire, authorities said.

Deputies initially responded to the 1500 block of East 77th Place in the Florence-Graham area of Los Angeles around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a domestic violence incident, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim, later identified as the suspect’s ex-girlfriend, reported that he was at her residence and armed with a gun, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators later located the suspect in the 7600 block of Compton Avenue, where he allegedly attempted to elude law enforcement, brandished a handgun and began firing at deputies.

“The suspect attempted to flee, produced a handgun, and fired at deputies, at which point a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location and, despite rendering life-saving measures, pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies recovered a handgun from the scene and that the shooting remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone with additional information about the case was urged to contact the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
