Due to games that were postponed by several wildfires in Los Angeles county and surrounding communtities, the California Interscholastic Federation temporarily lifted its rule that bans high school competition on Sunday’s, allowing teams impacted by the fires to play on Sunday.
St. Francis, who had students lose homes to the Eaton fires, will host a boys basketball game on Sunday against Palisades at 3:30 p.m. A junior varsity game betweent the two schools will start first at 2 p.m.
Pacific Palisades was devasted by the fires and Palisades high school had extensive damage to its campus, forcing Palisades athletic teams to play off campus.
Sunday’s non-league game is not only to help sharpen both teams for the remainder of the season, but will also serve as a fundraiser for those impacted by the fires.
St. Francis and Palisades are calling the event “Rebound Together” with proceeds from the game spllit between Palisades fire victims and the Eaton Canyon fire fund.
There will also be raffle’s, drawing’s and baked goods for spectators to enjoy. Tickets will be available on GoFan on Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
GLENDORA SHOWCASE ON SATURDAY
Glendora girls basketball coach Adam Nunemaker has put together a full slate of girls basketball games for Saturday’s Glendora Showcase.
There are 16 games total using both gyms at Glendora. Some of the featured games include Glendora taking on Shadow HIlls at 3 p.m., and Keppel taking on Sonora at 7:30 p.m.
Los Altos will play United Christian Academy at 12 p.m., and San Dimas will face Temescal Canyon at 1:30 p.m. Northview will play Walnut in the opening game at 9 a.m.
