Southern California could see some rain, chance of snow this week

Rain, gusty winds and partly low clouds will set in for parts of Southern California beginning early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

“Monday appears to be the best day for precipitation,”  the NWS said of the Riverside area. “There is a light chance of rain Monday as the low-level moisture increases. A deeper trough of low pressure will bring another chance of precipitation around Thursday or Friday.”

In the Riverside area, forecasters predict a 30% chance of rain Monday with mostly clouds and light, variable winds. Conditions might slightly improve Tuesday with little to no chance of rain.

Any rain that does fall is expected to be light, with just a few hundredths of an inch at lower elevations.

Sunday was expected to feature mild, breezy conditions that will shift into gusty winds, with “moderate troughing covered most of the western US,” forecasters said.

In the Riverside area, daytime temperatures through the weekend will be in the upper 60s, with lows in the upper 40s. During the week, daytime highs are expected to be in the 60s, dipping into the upper 40s at night.

The San Bernardino area will see clouds thicken up on Sunday with a chance of increased winds. There is a 10-20% chance of light rain hitting the region beginning on Sunday evening going into Monday morning, according to NWS meteorologist Paul Steward.

Areas in the county reaching 7,500 feet elevation could see a light dusting of snow on Sunday evening and Monday morning on the west slopes of the mountains.

There’s a 30-50% chance that a weather system Wednesday will give the region measurable rain, especially for west-facing slopes, according to Steward.

Mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures will persist throughout the week.

Beginning on Sunday, highs will be in the mid to upper 60s. Lows will be in the upper 40s and low 50s. High deserts will see highs of upper 60s to low 70s and lows will go into the low 50s.

By Wednesday, temperatures will cool by 10 degrees going into Thursday.

LA and Orange counties will see a low pressure system moving through this weekend providing a 20-30% chance of light rain on Sunday evening into Monday morning, when the chance of rain increases to 30-50%, Steward said.

Higher elevation areas in LA County could experience gusty winds reaching 50 miles per hour on Sunday. The NWS will send out wind advisories if necessary.

Clouds will increase and thicken up with winds picking up into Tuesday.

The “real rain maker” will arrive to the region on Wednesday evening and go into Thursday, according to Steward.

Areas in high elevations of 4,000 feet in the region could see a couple inches of snow on Thursday morning.

Forecast highs range in the low 60s in the coastal areas to the mid-upper 60s in inland areas. Lows will range in the upper 40s to low 50s for coastal areas and low to mid 40s for inland areas, according to Steward.

Temperature are anticipated to warm next weekend with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
