Secret Walls will kick off street art competition in Los Angeles

Secret Walls, known for their live competitive art events, will kick off their nationwide tour, “The Art of Competition,” at the sneaker culture hub venue, Shoe Surgeon, in Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 27.

The event, which includes live music from local DJs, will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $33.77 at secret walls.world. Attendees will watch artists Dreyfus, Blue, Hannah Eddy, Bakeneko, Wotto, and Emily Ding face off in teams in a 90-minute challenge and showcase their skills on a giant wall that will serve as their canvas.

Each competitor will be provided with Posca paint markers, paint brushes, spray paint, and paint rollers to aid in their design. A panel of judges and a decibel meter measuring audience reactions will help determine the winner of each battle.

Secret Walls began in 2006 in the bars and warehouses of Shoreditch, East London, with a mission to support local artists. The organization’s events invited fans to cheer on their favorite local artists in the underground art scene. In over 16 years, the group has held over two thousand artistic battles in over 100 cities and 50 countries. As Secret Walls built their reputation with up-and-coming artists, the group began collaborating with iconic brands such as Adidas, Nike Air and Shake Shack.

In addition to their competitions, Secret Walls also hosts Secret Walls Academy, an art education platform often led by one or more artists from the Secret Walls network that works with schools, youth clubs, museums, and community organizations to help guide aspiring artists in communities worldwide.
