San Pedro holiday parade seeks donations

San Pedro’s annual holiday parade has launched a campaign aimed at raising $15,000 to ensure the longstanding parade at Christmas time continues this year.

Because costs have risen, the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce seeks donations from the community to help foot the bill for the event that draws thousands of cheering fans to Pacific Avenue and downtown San Pedro every year to watch the parade of local groups.

“But to keep this cherished tradition alive,” said Lee Williams, an L.A. harbor commissioner and Realtor, in a video, “we need your support. Your contributions will help us deliver a parade that brings joy and unity to the entire community.”

Donations, said San Pedro Honorary Mayor Manny Jimenez, will help to ensure the parade includes talented performers and a safe environment. Contributions also will “provide for our volunteers and even give our school bands a chance to shine.”

The parade has been a port community staple for decades. Funds raised will go toward helping to cover essential costs, including performance fees, safety measures, and support for the volunteers.
