Newbury Park football claims three All-CIF awards after winning CIF-SS Division 2 title

The Newbury Park football team won the Division 2 Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Championship Coach Awards after beating Murrieta Valley to win the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship.

The CIF-SS released the All-CIF football lists Monday afternoon, recognizing the best student-athletes in 11-man football.

Newbury Park junior Brady Smigiel was recognized as Offensive Player of the Year after completing 219 of 336 passes for 3,521 yards and 49 touchdowns. Senior Shane Rosenthal is the Defensive Player of the Year and recorded 57 tackles in addition to seven interceptions returned for 144 yards.

Joe Smigiel is the Championship Coach after guiding the Panthers to a 14-1 overall record. Their only loss was to Lincoln in the Division 1-AA CIF State championships.
