Bear Mountain will be home to the Big Bear MX Grand Prix later this month, when hundreds of motocross riders head to the San Bernardino Mountains.
The event sponsored by O’Neal is being held at the resort for just the second time. The mountains that are home to skiers and snowboarders in winter will be the place where more than 900 motocross riders will gather on Aug. 19-23, a news release from Visit Big Bear says.
“The event attracts riders from across the country who come to test themselves against the mountain and compete in an atmosphere unlike any traditional motocross or off-road race venue,” Aaron Cooke, race director, says in the release.
Racers of all ages and levels will get the opportunity to ride the Bear Mountain slopes on the 3-mile trail.
The weekend event will also include more than 30 vendors. “From gear and accessories to food and industry demos, the event provides entertainment and activities for the entire family,” the release says.
It’s a “one-of-a-kind event for both racers and spectators, blending fast-paced amateur and professional racing with the natural beauty and recreational atmosphere of the mountains,” Cooke said.
The Big Bear MX Grand Prix runs each day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those who plan to attend or compete, must buy a wristband.
Access is only available with a wristband, the resort’s website says.
