MLS Cup champion Galaxy begins roster construction for 2025 season

Just days after winning its sixth MLS Cup, the Galaxy turned their attention toward 2025 with several roster and contract decisions.

The Galaxy picked up the 2025 options on defender Jalen Neal and midfielders Mark Delagdo, Tuckey Lepley, Isaiah Parent and Gino Vivi, who is currently on loan at Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica.

Goalkeeper Brady Scott and defender Martin Caceres had their option declined, making both free agents. Caceres made 15 appearances this season and 36 appearances in three seasons. The Galaxy’s MLS Cup win was the eighth league title for Caceres, who was sidelined for the second half of the season with an Achilles injury.

Defenders Maya Yoshida and Eriq Zavaleta are out of contract. The club said that they are in “active discussions” with Scott, Yoshida and Zavaleta to return for next season.

Team captain Yoshida has been a rock for the Galaxy defense since arriving late last season. When asked during MLS Cup week how many more seasons he wanted to play, he said:

“One by one … They decide. It’s the boys on the other side. I’ll wait for the new contract. That’s it.”

Here is the current Galaxy roster:

Goalkeepers: John McCarthy, Novak Mićović

Defenders: Julián Aude, Mauricio Cuevas, Emiro Garcés, Harbor Miller, Jalen Neal, John Nelson, Miki Yamane

Midfielders: Gastón Brugman, Edwin Cerrillo, Mark Delgado, Diego Fagundez, Tucker Lepley, Isaiah Parente, Riqui Puig, Marco Reus, Gino Vivi

Forwards: Miguel Berry, Aaron Bibout, Dejan Joveljić, Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, Ruben Ramos Jr.

Annette Rossilli, 85, died in Palisades fire after resisting evacuation offers to stay with her pets

The Galaxy left 11 players unprotected: Bibout, Berry, Brugman, Cáceres, Fagúndez, Lepley, Parente, Scott, Vivi, Yoshida and Zavaleta.

Fagundez ($1,310,000) and Brugman ($1,409,000) are the two highest-salaried players on the Galaxy’s list.

San Diego is allowed to select up to five players from the pool of players from across MLS. Once a player is selected from a team, that team is then eliminated from the draft and can’t lose another player. If a club has a player selected, that team will also receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money.
