Memphis Grizzlies surprisingly part ways with coach Taylor Jenkins, franchise’s winningest coach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies have parted ways with their winningest coach, Taylor Jenkins, with the team struggling down the stretch and at risk of losing home-court advantage for the postseason.

The franchise announced the decision Friday. Jenkins was in his sixth season as Memphis’ coach as the Grizzlies struggled on a West Coast road trip.

Memphis lost four of five games on the trip, including losses to Sacramento, Portland, the Clippers and Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City. The Grizzlies slipped to fifth place in the West and host the Lakers (fourth place with the same record, 44-29) on Saturday.

The Grizzlies released a statement, announcing the decision.

“I’m genuinely appreciative of Taylor’s contributions to this team and this city over the past six seasons,” Grizzlies President and General Manager of Basketball Operations Zach Kleiman said in the statement. “This was a difficult decision, given the consistent and tangible development of our players and overall success under Taylor’s leadership. I wish Taylor the very best going forward.”
