A man died on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and six others were taken to a hospital from the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, where paramedics were sent on a report of possible overdoses.
Emergency personnel were sent to the facility in the 400 block of Bauchet Street at 8:40 a.m., said Margaret Stewart, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A man in his 30s died at the scene, and the other patients were transported for hospital treatment in unknown condition, said Stewart, adding that the investigation involves an “unknown white powder.”
The name of the man who died was not immediately released.
Further information was not immediately available from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is responsible for the facility.
