Letter: No on Prop. 6. Prisoners can work like the rest of us.

Re “Vote yes on Proposition 6 to end forced labor in prisons“:

No work for prisoners? It doesn’t give them time for rehab and family?

I might point out that many kids still in school make time for extracurricular activities, family, house chores and often a little job. Those of us in the work force with full time jobs, family and other responsibilities seem to get by. This is not a vacation, there are expectations.

You say it will save money but you ignore the fact that taxpayers will have to foot the bill for well paid help to do the work the prisoners should be doing.

Rehab? Questionable at best, should include creating a realistic work ethic for the real world because that may be the real clue to recidivism.

If you insist on paying them for work then they should be charged for room and board.

This whole thing is just silly.

Prison’s not supposed to be fun.
