An outer space-themed indoor roller coaster where riders will train for intergalactic travel before blasting off on a mission into the Lego Galaxy is coming to Legoland California as Southern California theme parks prepare for a brewing coaster war in 2026.
Construction has already begun on the first-of-their-kind indoor coasters that will debut next year at Legoland California and Legoland Florida.

Legoland California revealed plans last year in documents submitted to the city of Carlsbad for a Lego Galaxy themed land that will feature an indoor coaster, outdoor spinner ride, alien spaceship children’s play structure and toddler play area.
“The new attraction area will have a ‘space’ theme where park guests will train for space exploration, meet other intergalactic travelers and blast off on missions into the Lego Galaxy,” according to city planning documents.
The revelation that Legoland Florida will be getting an identical version of the indoor coaster was the biggest surprise of the dual announcement on Tuesday, March 25.
The Legoland parks have not yet officially announced the Lego Galaxy theme for the coasters and lands, but they have already begun dropping hints that the experience will be “truly out of this world” and an “exploration unlike any other.”
The $90 million project on both coasts marks the largest investments in the parks since they opened in 1999 in California and 2011 in Florida.
The Lego Galaxy themed lands based on the popular Lego Space series of toys are being designed by the Legoland creative team of Merlin Magic Makers with the Lego Group.

The galactic themed indoor launched roller coasters will send riders on an exploratory mission into the uncharted Lego Galaxy in custom Lego spacecraft, according to the backstory for the ride.
The family coaster — housed inside a 44-foot-tall “space port” — will include a Lego brick building attraction and a retail shop, according to the Carlsbad planning documents.
The Lego Galaxy themed land planned for Legoland California will also feature a 24-passenger spinner-type ride with three cantilevered arms along with the children’s playgrounds.
The new Lego Galaxy land will replace the Driving School attractions in the Lego City land at Legoland California.
The popular Legoland driving school tracks will be rebuilt in another area of the park — replacing the Funtown Fire Academy attraction.
It’s been two decades since Legoland California built a new coaster ¯ and the timing is no accident.
The Southern California coaster wars will resume in 2026 with Universal Studios Hollywood adding the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster and Six Flags Magic Mountain opening a motorbike-style suspended coaster.
