LA Marathon hosts a virtual charity run to raise money for victims of wildfires

Running enthusiasts from across the country are being invited to log their miles on the workout app Strava this Saturday for the Together LA Wildfire Relief Run, which will raise money for communities recovering from January’s Los Angeles County wildfires.

The nationwide effort is the first event leading up to the 40th Los Angeles Marathon on March 16. It builds on a collaboration announced Feb. 20 between organizers of the Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Boston marathons.

The four organizations are offering co-branded Together LA merchandise to aid those affected by the wildfires. Proceeds will support the Community Organized Relief Effort and the California Fire Foundation, helping provide emergency relief and long-term recovery services.

“Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint,” said Brian McCourt, president of the McCourt Foundation, which operates the Los Angeles Marathon. “More than ever, this year the Los Angeles Marathon represents a moment for all of us to come together and show that we haven’t forgotten those still in need. When runners unite, they create change and we’re proud to partner with Strava to harness that collective energy as marathon weekend approaches. Together, we can all make a difference.”

As part of relief efforts, Strava will donate $20,000 to support the Together LA wildfire relief efforts.

Users are invited to join relief efforts by logging their miles on Strava and tagging their activity using “Together LA” in the title. Participants can also donate to the Together LA Wildfire Relief Fund at mccourtfoundation.org/together-la/.
