BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 10

(Records through Sunday, Jan. 12)

The majority of local basketball games were canceled or postponed last week due to the Los Angeles wildfires, including the Mission-Trinity League Showcase, which has been moved to Feb. 1. Teams will look to resume practices and games this week as long as fire, power and air quality levels are met.

1. Harvard-Westlake (18-1)

The Wolverines were set to open Mission League play against Chaminade last week, but will now meet Alemany first on the road Tuesday.

2. Notre Dame (15-2)

The Knights, who were scheduled to play Crespi on the road last week, remain on the road to start their Mission League slate against Loyola on Tuesday.

3. Heritage Christian (17-2)

Heritage Christian started its quest for the Olympic League title with a 2-0 record last week, defeating Valley Christian 80-40 and Whittier Christian 72-38. Tae Simmons (25 points) and Dillan Shaw (24 points) led the way for the Warriors against Valley Christian. Freddie Crawford scored 20 points and Dominic Loehle recorded 15 points and 10 assists in the win against Whittier Christian. Heritage Christian hosts Village Christian on Tuesday in a rivalry clash.

4. Sierra Canyon (13-3)

The Trailblazers didn’t play last week but Rutgers commit Chris Nwuli, who transferred to Sierra Canyon at the start of this year, announced his transfer to Dynamic Prep in Texas. Sierra Canyon starts its reconfigured Mission League schedule at home Tuesday against Chaminade.

5. Crespi (15-4)

The Celts will have to wait a little longer for their matchup with Notre Dame, and instead are scheduled to visit St. Francis on Tuesday.

6. Campbell Hall (11-5)

Like the Mission League, the Gold Coast League canceled all of its games last week. Rather than facing Windward to start its league schedule, Campbell Hall is set to hit the road Tuesday for a matchup with Brentwood.

7. Chaminade (17-3)

The Eagles have a date with Sierra Canyon on Tuesday on the road to start their Mission League campaign.

8. Canyon (16-4)

The Cowboys haven’t won a Foothill League title since 2012, but have played themselves into prime position for the league crown after a 75-66 win against Valencia last week. Eric Kubel leads the way for Canyon, but the team has been getting solid contributions from across the roster. The Cowboys followed up their win against the Vikings with a 93-45 win against Castaic and will visit Hart on Tuesday.

9. St. Francis (13-5)

The Los Angeles wildfires have devastated many local communities, including the St. Francis community. Several families have been displaced and the school has opened a fire fund to help its community. As of Monday, the Golden Knights boys basketball team is set to resume its schedule against Crespi on Tuesday at home.
