Infant dies after being bitten by dog in Torrance

A one-month-old child died Tuesday, Oct. 8, after being bitten by a dog in Torrance, authorities said.

Torrance police responded to the 2700 block of Martha Avenue, near 228th Street, just after 12:30 p.m. after receiving a call of an animal bite, Lt. Freddy Ahmad said.

Torrance firefighters arrived and took the child to a hospital, Ahmad said. Police followed and talked with the child’s parents, who informed officers that the child died.

The dog was taken by Torrance Animal Control, Ahmad said.

The family owned the dog and it lived at the home, Ahmad said, adding that the attack occurred inside the house.

What prompted the attack and the dog’s breed were unclear.
