In Arleta, free turkeys and holiday hams are given to those in need

The first 50 families in need who came to a food giveaway in Arleta on Thursday Dec. 19 sponsored by the National Health Foundation and L.A. City Councilmember Imelda Padilla received a grocery bag of produce including celery, broccoli, cauliflower, pears and onions, and a ham or a turkey.

“We’re hosting a holiday food distribution for the Arleta community … for seniors experiencing  homelessness here in the neighborhood,” said Chad Monk, senior vice president of programs and policy for the nonprofit National Health Foundation.

“We want to be a part of the community and give back,” Monk said.

Some families and individuals had lined up by 7 a.m. for the 9 a.m. event in Arleta, a community in the San Fernando Valley.

One participant, Frank Francisco Maldonado, said the food giveaway was “very good, actually. We thank (them) that this is made for everybody, because a lot of people — they’re hungry.”
