Husband arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting wife in Encino

A man is in custody on Thursday on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife in Encino on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department arrived to the 5100 block of Hesperia Avenue, in a residential area two blocks south of Ventura Boulevard, just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 to reports of shots fired, according to LAPD.

A man allegedly shot his 54-year-old wife several times before trying to run away, police said. He was caught and arrested by officers, NBC4 reported. Neighbors told the broadcast station they heard several shots.

Police found the woman in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the head, reported ABC7. She was found dead at the scene, according to LAPD spokesperson officer Charles Miller.

The couple did not live in the neighborhood, according to police.

ABC7 also reported that, according to LAPD Lt. Guy Golan, the shooting was an isolated case of domestic violence.

The motive for the fatal shooting is under investigation. LAPD’s Valley Homicide Bureau is conducting the investigation.
