How to win tickets for Sublime’s sold out poolside show at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino

Nothing makes livin’ easy like a poolside show headlined by Sublime.

The Long Beach punk/ska group, now fronted by the late Bradley Nowell’s son, Jakob Nowell alongside the original drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson, will perform at a pool party at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino on Saturday, Aug. 24. The event, hosted by radio DJs Booker and Stryker of ALT 98.7 F.M. is sold out, but Sublime fans can still score tickets.

Yaamava will host a social media contest on its Instagram page for its followers from Aug. 16 through Aug. 19. The grand prize is a one-night stay in a standard room on Aug. 24, a $300 dining credit, two tickets to see Sublime and two $75 Free Play vouchers. The casino will also give two separate winners two tickets to see Sublime and two $50 Free Play vouchers. Additionally, ALT 98.7 will hold another contest during the weeks of Aug. 12–16 and 19–23, asking listeners to call in at 800-782-7987 for a chance to win.

The Sublime Pool Party event will be hosted on the Yaamava’ pool deck, part of the property’s poolside entertainment, and separate from the more prominent events at the Yaamava’ Theater. The space, which seats 390 people, including the seating offered on loungers and daybeds, boasts two pools, two Jacuzzis, and a giant LED television. It also houses seven cabanas, which can host up to six guests and are stocked with bottled water, unlimited sunscreen products, after-sun care lotion, private TVs, and a dedicated VIP attendant. It also houses Helix Bar and the Radiance Café, serving tasty bites and specialty cocktails.

Cabana packages are available for hotel and non-hotel guests, starting at $500 Monday through Thursday and $1,000 Friday through Sunday. Daybeds can accommodate two people and start at $175 on weekdays and $225 on weekends. Guests can call the Serrano Spa at 909-686-7097 to make a reservation.

Sublime original members Wilson and Gaugh joined Jakob Nowell to reform the group after they played a benefit show for Bad Brain frontman H.R. in December 2023 at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. After the benefit show, they hit the Southern California festival circuit and landed spots on the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the No Values Festival.

Nowell, 28, now fronting the group, is the same age his father was when he died of an overdose after playing a show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma on May 25, 1996. Sublime released “Feel Like That” on May 24, the group’s first song in nearly three decades. The track features vocals from Scott Woodruff, lead singer of the dub and reggae band Stick Figure, Jakob Nowell and a verse from Bradley Nowell that was taken from a spontaneous jam session before he died.

The revival of the original project spawned two Sublime groups, including the band fronted by Rome Ramirez, dubbed Sublime with Rome which originally featured Wilson, who had been in the group for 14 years but bowed out of the project’s last tour. According to Rolling Stone, Ramirez found out the Sublime reunion was happening over social media posts, leaving him performing without any members of the original Sublime.

The group, which released its last album, “Sublime with Rome,” on May 10, is still performing, including a gig at the OC Fair on Saturday, July 27. Ramirez said he has been working on solo music he plans to release after wrapping the group’s final touring obligations.
