Homes threatened as brush fire breaks out in Pacific Palisades amid strong windstorm

A brush fire that swelled to about 200 acres amid a strong windstorm in Pacific Palisades is threatening homes on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, authorities said.

The fire was burning near the 1100 block of North Piedra Morada Drive, a residential street in a hillside neighborhood, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Los Angeles city emergency services officials are urging residents in the Pacific Palisades are to be prepared for potential evacuation orders in response to that rapidly growing brush fire. No formal evacuation orders have yet been issued.

Dark gray smoke could be seen from the Santa Monica pier.

What started the fire was not known. The fire started amid windy conditions during a period in which Southern California was under a red flag warning for extreme fire danger.
