Hiker dies in Hollywood Hills West despite efforts by rescuers to save him

HOLLYWOOD HILLS — Firefighters worked Saturday night to save the life of a hiker in a grave medical condition in Hollywood Hills West, but the man was beyond saving, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man in his 50s was located in an area north of Nichols Canyon Road about 7:05 p.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jamie Stewart.

LAFD Air Operations reached the patient and medical treatment was administered prior to him being declared dead, the LAFD said.

Park rangers and the LAPD were called to secure the scene.

The man’s name and the exact cause of his medical condition or injury was not available but will be confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
