INGLEWOOD — All eight Mission League boys basketball teams took part Saturday in the Trinity-Mission League Showcase at the Intuit Dome.
The all-day event included two of the top teams in the Trinity League, St. John Bosco and Mater Dei, along with two teams from the Gold Coast League, Campbell Hall and Brentwood.
Here is a look at the highlights from some of the games:
Harvard-Westlake 59, St. Francis 52
The Wolverines finish the regular season with a 25-1 overall record and 7-0 Mission League record.
Harvard-Westlake led by two points at halftime, 26-24, and extended its lead to 43-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Loyola 76, Chaminade 55
The Cubs outscored the Eagles by 18 points in the final quarter to break open what had been a tightly contested game through the first three quarters.
Quincy Watson led Loyola with 23 points, including six 3-pointers in the first half, and Jack Jeffery added 18 points.
Loyola held a 52-49 advantage heading into the fourth quarter and began to inflate its cushion after three consecutive baskets by Brandon Klein, who finished with 12 points. The Eagles scored just six points in the final frame.
Jonas Thurman led Chaminade with 18 points and Brycen Butler scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
The two teams will meet again Sunday to start the Mission League Tournament, with Loyola’s victory Saturday securing home court for the Cubs.
Crespi 53, Alemany 38
The Celts secured a first-round bye in the Mission League Tournament with their victory over the Warriors.
Crespi’s Peyton White scored seven of his team’s first 11 points and finished the contest with 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jayden Xu chipped in eight points and Isaiah Barnes had seven points and nine rebounds.
Marc Cherfan had a team-high 12 points for Alemany and Bourgeois Tshilobo grabbed 10 rebounds and scored eight points for the Warriors.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, with Crespi scoring seven points and Alemany scoring only two points.
Alemany will host St. Francis in the first round of the Mission League Tournament, with the winner traveling to Crespi for the quarterfinals.
St. John Bosco 66, Mater Dei 57
The Braves pulled away late, finishing the game on a 9-0 run to secure the win over their Trinity League foe.
Brandon McCoy led St. John Bosco with 20 points and Demarcus Henry scored 23 points for Mater Dei.
St. John Bosco moved to 7-2 in the Trinity League with a matchup against JSerra to close out the regular season on Tuesday.
Mater Dei, 5-3 in league play, will face Santa Margarita on Monday and Orange Lutheran on Tuesday to close out the regular season.
Campbell Hall 70, Brentwood 67
Isaiah Johnson scored 39 points and made 17 of 19 free throws, including 7 of 8 in the fourth quarter, to lead Campbell Hall to a Gold Coast League win.
Johnson credited his work in the gym as the main reason he’s able to perform when the lights are the brightest.
“It’s from my work, just trust in the work,” Johnson said. “I’m in the gym every day, I was in the gym this morning getting up free throws. It’s all just muscle memory at the end of the day.”
Sajan Bristol added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings.
AJ Okoh scored 17 points and Shalen Sheppard recorded 13 points for the Eagles.
The loss was the first in league play for Brentwood.
