‘Grand Illuminations’ dazzles with a light show of huge sculptures in L.A.

If anything can outshine the many holiday decorations and huge Christmas trees in Downtown Los Angeles it’s got to be the light exhibition dubbed “Grand Illuminations.” In large-scale, this show created by the Los Angeles-based group of artists, engineers and friends known as Liquid PXL can be seen for free through Jan. 8.

Shown at The Yard at California Plaza on Grand Avenue, the display is described as “immersive” and “radiant.” It  features 10 electric dandelions standing 28 feet tall; Lumiverse, a custom-designed 25-foot LED tree, and a stunning arbor arch trellis. And for those who go, a festive and strikingly lit walkway leads to The Yard.

“The Yard at Cal Plaza holds such a special place in my heart, as some of my earliest memories of visiting downtown were trips to Grand Performances,” says Abram Santa Cruz, founder of Liquid PXL. “It’s truly a joy to showcase my art in such a prominent, central, and accessible setting for all Angelenos to enjoy this holiday season.”

Grand Illuminations by Liquid PXL is supported by Grand Performances, Plaza Commons, Inc., and the DTLA Alliance.
